Getting around

  • All non-NZers require either an NZeTA or a specific visitor visa to enter New Zealand, which you can check here. Please do check this now (well in advance) so that there are no surprises.
  • Note that, as the world is a sphere, August spells winter in New Zealand. Pack accordingly!
  • Book a seat on the Island Direct to Waiheke Island in advance to secure a spot. Once on Waiheke, if you are staying in Onetangi, catch the 50A bus from the ferry terminal at Matiatia wharf (27 minutes, reliable and good fun).
  • We would recommend staying around Onetangi if you are not looking to rent a car on the island itself. The Waiheke Backpackers Hostel is an affordable and authentic accommodation option, conveniently located in Onetangi. The upmarket alternative is to book a place such as those available on Coast and Country or one of your usual online booking platforms. If you are looking to share the costs of accommodation with other guests, let us know and we can hook you up.
  • We are more than happy to help you plan your travels if anything here is not clear enough. Shoot us a line.
